Here some config to change in your game to reduce the lag or game crash.

Go to
c:\programmes files\steam\steamApps\common\call of duty black ops\players

Keep a backup copy of these files before editing.
Edit file config.cfg (singleplayer)
Edit file config_mp.cfg (multiplayer)

These setting should resolve the game crash (intermittent):
seta r_multiGpu "1" if your video card use a multi Gpu
seta r_multiGpu "0" if your video card use a mono Gpu
seta r_multithreaded_device "1" if your Cpu is a multi core
seta r_multithreaded_device "0" if your Cpu is a single core

These setting should resolve the lag:
seta cl_maxpacket "100"
seta com_maxfps "1000"

I test these config and that run smooth and help many other players.
It is important to use the right setting in the game parameters.

Micsa, we were able to get into our server tonight and play one it! we had about 8 people on it before I had to go and I didn't notice any lag and it was all working ok.

The RCON TOOL is incoporate in the STEAM Library / Tool.
Name is ==> Call of Duty Black OPS - REMOTE CONSOLE

** I try 3 other Rcon tools and each one crash the server at the end of the Maps Rotation.

To every Players (members), having the game COD-Black OPS.
If you use the RCON tool (this tool come with the game in Steam / library/ tool):

OPEN the Rcon Tool and Kick or Ban the faulty Players and immediatly after, CLOSE this Tool. Because nobody else can use it, when an other member use it and leave OPEN. It is possible to see which one use the Rcon tool, check in the Steam Friend under the name, that tell you which member have the Rcon tool OPEN (normaly we see which game you are playing).

With this RCON Tool we have limited feature:

PLAYERS => we can only see the number and name of the players. We can kick/ban players. You can use it, but dont abuse.

PLAYLISTS => we can see only the playlists for gametypes and maps. We can choice a gamtypes with the map going with it. We cannot use this tool to do the function NEXT MAP, not working. If you like to use it, please read the instructions of bottom of this page.

MESSAGES => it is use to create server messages rotations, cannot use two Rcon tool at the sametime for this. Dont use it plz.

SERVER => It is the basic config of the server, name and rcon password only.
Dont use it plz. The server crash when we do some change here in the rcon.

If you need the Rcon password, ask me or ask to an other admin or members.

INSTRUCTIONS for the PLAYLISTS:

Choice a Playlist, ex: Hardcore Capture The Flag and click 2 time on it.
You should see the Hardcore Capture The Flag in the CURRENT PLAYLIST box.
Click on the icon Start Selected Playlist, this function = save.
All maps are in the mapcycle rotation. You should not see name of MAPS & GAMETYPES in the EXCLUSIONS window.

If you like to EXCLUDE some maps from the MAPCYCLE:
Click ADD and choose the MAP and GAMETYPE you like to EXCLUDE from the MAPCYCLE.
Click with your right button mouse on the MAP you like to change for a new MAP to Exclude.
Click with your right button mouse on the GAMETYPE you like to change for a new GAMETYPE to Exclude.
Click on the icon Apply Exclusions, this function = save.
If you like to REMOVE the MAPS EXCLUSIONS, Highlight the MAP and press DELETE key and click APPLY EXCLUSIONS.

Some LAG fixes or help:

Game requires:
OS: Windows Vista/ XP /or 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom X3 8750 or better
Memory: 12 GB of hard drive space / 2 GB RAM
Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256 MB Nvidia Geforce 8600GT ? ATI Radeon X1950 PRO or better.

Ok so these are the minimum specs. but You will want better than min in 2 areas. It says the min is that you have 2 GB RAM. What it should say is "more than 2GB RAM. I had 2, added a third and saw a big improvement.

As I have seen others say, this game uses a lot of RAM and CPU. Upgrading these will help a lot. There are some other tweaks you can make as well that help just a little.

For example, If you launch the game, and before you join a server, bring up the task manager, right click the black ops.exe and set as high priority.

Also if you have a first packet option on your nvidia ntune manager, you can add steam and black ops to that. Micsa also posted turning off the synch every frame in the game settings, this and lowering graphic settings can also help.

There have been patches which I think helped and I believe there will be more. But these tips helped me and might help others.

Thank DAS, good explanation.

These references can help you to see the level of hardware update you need to play this COD-Black OPS.

Here my first old PC, and my setting run at max quality for all settings (max setting: 16x and 16xQ CSAA) , never slow down in all games:

cpu: AMD Phenom II X4 940 am2+ Black edition - Quad core => (any new high cpu is faster than this one)
memory: Kingston Hyper-X dual-ch 2x 2gb ddr2-1066 (4 gb) => (now memory use ddr3-1333)
video card: EVGA Nvidia GTX-275 896mb-ddr3 OC => (any new medium video card is faster than this one)
disk: 2x Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb sata-II dual-proc 32mb (1000 gb) => (that the slower part of this pc)
power supply: Enermax 720 watts Infiniti
** This setting only in game, is 12% faster of Intel i7-920 (not true when running applications).

Here my second old PC, and my setting run at max quality (except for this, use medium setting: 2x and 2x MSAA) and never slow down in all games, but slower in time to load the game:

cpu: AMD Phenom II X3 720 am3 Black edition- Three core => (any new medium cpu is faster than this one)
memory: Kingston Hyper-X dual-ch 2x 2gb ddr2-1066 (4 gb) => (now memory use ddr3-1333)
video card: ASUS Nvidia GF-9800 GTX+ 512mb-ddr3 OC => (any new basic video card is faster than this one)
disk: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500gb sata-II 16mb => (that the slower part of this pc)
power supply: Enermax 620 watts Liberty

PS:
Very important to have a powerfull power unit, the 700 & 620 watts are a minimum for these CPU/Video kits.
Less 100 watts for the Power unit and the Video card slow down.
New video card take less power now, but never go less than 550 watts.

Also, you can buy a video card with an excellent chipset (Ati or Nvidia), a good chipset on a bad quality of components
for the video card of some cie (ex: use slow speed for the video memory like ddr2). Can drop your video power of 30%.
ASUS, EVGA, Gigabyte and MSI, normally use a good quality of components.

OK so I prolly have this in the wrong forum but I wanted to know if this game is the shiznit or if I should just wait for everyone to get tired of it and come back to BC2?

If the tank dies, it's the healer's fault. If the healer dies, it's the tanks fault. If a DPS dies... It's thier own fault...

The way I see this,
BF2 is dead and BC2 game should stay a favorites game for 1 or 2 years.
Each time a new game come on the market, everybody shift to this new game. In 1 or 2 months most of the players should reach the top ranks and at this time they should come back in BC2, also the BC2 Vietnam expension should be there, 21 december 2010.

After many patchs from the 9 nov, the server CoD-Black OPS run very well, still have some minor problems. And only the name COD is a good seller.

The game MOH 2010 have the best graphic quality and the best quality of sound of all games on the market, maps are realistic. Run with no problem after the first patch. Like a BC2 game with more graphics quality. You need a good video cards to see all effects.
Just hear the environement sounds like birds, winds in the trees, players walk sound and the weapons sounds (just pitch a grenade and you know it is a true grenade). But this game come on the market not in a good timing and price is a little too high.

Just now I am looking for the MAYHEM BC2 knife and Pistols and it is full of players.
Yesterday I find the problem about ADMIN going down each days. I think that should help to keep the server full.
